Agitated Hopper - An electronic hopper. It uses a motor to and propeller which forces paintballs to move into the feedneck.
There are 3 different types of agitated hoppers. The first one continuously propels therefore continuously feeds balls into
the feedneck. The second uses an infrared eye to sense whether a paintball is in the feedneck or not, if there aren't any,
it will propel until the feedneck is stacked with paintballs. The third is sound activated, everytime you fire your paintball
gun, it senses the shot from your paintball gun and automatically causes the properller to move.
Airsmith - someone who repairs or customizes paintball guns and/or almost anything dealing with paintball.
Air - short term for any type of gas whether it's CO2, nitrogen, or compressed air.
Annodizing - an anti-corrossion coating for your paintball gun. It is used on aluminum through electrolysis and can
be done in a manner to change the color of your paintball gun.
Anti-Siphon - a tube or valve installed into a CO2 tank. It is used to prevent liquid CO2 from entering the paintball
gun.
ASA - Air Source Adapter. An opening that allows any tank to be screwed onto the paintball gun. They contain a small
nipple which presses the pin on the valve of a tank, causing a flow of gas.
Auto - Automatic fire. A paintball gun that can fire continuously as long as the trigger is held down.
Bag - referring to a bag of paintballs. A bag of paintballs contains 500 paintballs.
Barrel - a cylindrical tube attached to the front of a paintball gun which guides the direction of a paintball.
Ball Detent - rubber or metal bearing found on all current paintball guns. It is used to prevent the double feeding
of paintballs into the paintball gun.
Barrel Adapter - a collar which can be put onto one barrel in order to fit onto another gun.
Barrel Condom - a barrel blocking device which is basically a bag with an adjustable strap. It is used to confine a
paintball to a certain area in the case of a paintball gun accidently being fired.
Barrel Plug - an old version of a barrel blocking device which is no longer acceptable at most paintball fields. It
was a plastic or rubber plug which was fitted into the barrel of a paintball gun to prevent paintballs from hitting anyone
in the case of a paintball gun accidently being fired.
BDU - Battle Dress Utilities, normally referring to military or military-style camoflauge clothing.
Blow Back - also known as Open Bolt. When certain paintball guns are fired, air moves up through the feedtube and the
bolt is also pushed back.
Bolt - a device within a paintball gun which pushes a ball into the breech. It contains an opening which forces the
paintball out of the gun. It also acts as an air seal.
Bore - the inner diameter of a paintball barrel.
Bottom Line - refers to an ASA being attached to the bottom grip of a paintball gun.
Breech - where the paintball rests as it is ready to be fired.
Bust Disk - a safety device used to prevent the rupturing of a tank in the event of a dangerous increase in pressure.
It is designed to rupture at a lower pressure than the tolerance of the tank.
Butt Plate - a plastic cap which fits over the bottom of a CO2 tank. It is designed to allow the player to rest the
tank against his or her shoulder.
BYOP - bring your own paint.
Cap - refers to limitations programmed into the circuit board of electronic paintball guns. This limits the number
of times a paintball gun can cycle.
Carry-on Paint - paint a player brings to the field which he purchased elsewhere.
Case - a box of 2000 paintballs. A box consists of 4 bags, each containing 500 paintballs.
Chamber - the section of a paintball barrel closest to the body of the paintball gun.
Chrono - chronograph. Used to measure the velocity of a paintball being fired from a paintball gun.
CO2 - chemical equation for Carbon Dioxide.
Cocking handle - a knob or rod used to pull the bolt of a paintball gun back. If the bolt is not cocked, it will not
fire.
Cup Seal - part of a paintball gun's valve system which prevents air from leaving the hole which it covers. When a
paintball is fired, the cup seal instantaneously uncovers the hole to fire a paintball then instantaneously recovers the hole.
Cycle - the number of times a paintball gun fires.
Delrin - a self-lubricating polymer plastic which is used in the construction of some paintball gun bolts. Because
of it's self lubricating characteristics, it does not need to be lubricated as do aluminum bolts.
DOT - stamp found on all tanks which aids in determining when a tank should be hydrotested.
Double Feed - when two paintballs are in the chamber at the same time. A double feed results in both paintballs breaking
in the paintball gun at the same time. This can be prevented by using ball detents.
Double Trigger - a paintball trigger which allows a player to use 2 fingers on the same trigger. The trigger is extended
to fit two fingers. This type of trigger is found on most paintball guns.
Drop Foward - is a device used to alter the positioning of the paintball tank for the comform of the user. The device
attached under the trigger frame instead of an ASA. An ASA is then attached to the drop foward.
Elbow - a feed elbow, used to attach a hopper directly on top of the feed tube of a paintball gun. Elbows are used
on most low end paintball guns.
Electro - refers to electronic or electro-pneumatic paintball guns. Rather than being controlled by air powered actions
and springs, the paintball gun is controlled by a circuit board and small computer within the paintball gun. When the trigger
is pulled, it activates a switch which signals the computer to fire the paintball. Because of it's sensetivity, triggers are
usually lighter and thinner. The triggers can also be adjusted to suit the player's taste.
Elimination - the act of being removed from the game.
Expansion Chamber - a paintball device which prevents liquid CO2 from entering the paintball gun.
Feeder - see Agitated Hopper.
Field Strip - the ability to disassemble a majority of your paintball gun with ease or without tools.
Fill Nipple - a plastic or aluminum nipple applied to a compressed air tank to prevent dirt, debris, and paint from
entering the tank.
Flag Station - can be used starting point for teams or a designated place for where flags are to be hung.
Foregrip - a vertical grip added to the front of the paintball gun beneath the barrel. It is simply an addition for
a player to hold on to which is more preferable than holding onto the barrel of the paintball gun.
FPS - Feet per Second. The standard measurement of velocity.
Full Auto - see Auto.
Gas Efficiency - how well a paintball gun uses the propellant gas.
Gas Through Grip - see Foregrip.
Gas Through Stock - a stock designed to be screwed into the back of a paintball gun and also contained a nipple for
which to propellant air is rerouted through. The gas travels through a remote and to the nipple of the stock which
serves as a new ASA.
Goggles - also known as a goggle system or paintball mask. Includes frames for the lens, the lens, adjustable strap,
and protection for the forehead, temple, ears, and mouth. Some also include protection for the throat.
Grenade - a paintball grenade which contains the same paint found in paintballs which is under pressure. A pin is pulled
and the grenade is thrown. The grenade then releases the pressure and sprays paint.
Grips - the main gripping surface of a paintball gun found on the grip frame.
Guppy - see Tubes.
